THIS is THEATRE RALEIGH!

I’m Lauren Kennedy Brady and this is Theatre Raleigh! [singing] How long do you think you stay living? I was born and raised right here in Raleigh, North Carolina but was in New York for 23 years, pursuing a Broadway career as an actress, but I decided to come back down 7 years ago to create opportunities for the artists that live right here in downtown Raleigh. The mission of Theatre Raleigh is to produce live, professional, intimate theatre in downtown Raleigh that enhances the cultural vitality of this city. We take our responsibility to this community seriously, and we aim to create strategies for growth that reflect our history, our diversity, and the unique potential that this city has to offer. We host an average of 8,000 patrons per year in our 130 seat black-box theatre, and we create roughly 144 jobs per year for actors, musicians, technical crew and designers, and what I’m most excited about is our growing Education Department, where we offer camps and classes. The Education program is one of the most exciting aspects of Theatre Raleigh, and it really comprises two key areas, the first of which being our camps and classes. Our Family Series is the place where we can inspire the next generation of theatre goers, theatre supporters, patrons of the arts, and I am proud to say that in one year’s time, we doubled the size of the program, both in terms of the number of campers that attended, and the number of camps we were able to offer. We are able to partner with some great community organizations, like Passage Home and Neighbor 2 Neighbor. Just seeing them all grow together is so rewarding and I think it’s the reason we do what we do. Our Family Series started small, with just one show that we developed. It has now grown to the point where, last year, we, in fact, produced three shows in the Kennedy, and we also kicked off a tour where we bring our adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to some of the Wake County Public Schools, and that is a great way for us to help bridge the gap where arts funding fails. We can come in and offer this service, and last year alone, we made over 3300 impressions on local students and their families. The next step for us is to challenge ourselves to continue to grow and to do it responsibly, in a way that we continue to offer top-notch instruction and we maintain the reputation for quality that TR is known for. What patrons love about Theatre Raleigh is that we bring Broadway caliber performers right here to Raleigh, North Carolina in this intimate setting, and there’s not a bad seat in the house. And they also tell me that they love challenging, interesting stories and that we give it to them for an affordable price. So come check out everything that Theatre Raleigh has to offer! See you at the Theatre! [Singing] Streetlights, people….. Don’t stop!!! [cheering]
