Dead Man’s Cell Phone at Alley Theatre

Dead Man’s Cell Phone at Alley Theatre

our fourth play on the Hubbard stage
will be Sarah Ruhl’s hilarious and moving touching play dead man’s cell phone and
Brandon Weinbrenner is going to be directing it dead man’s cell phone is my
favorite play of sarah rules plays and that’s saying a lot because I love all
her plays this is the writer who gave us Eurydice which had a big success
here at the alley also the clean house and this play it’s my favorite kind of
play it’s a play that starts just casually a woman’s in a coffee shop and
a man’s cell phone is going off and it just doesn’t stop ringing doesn’t stop
ringing does say she reaches into his pocket and she answers it and gets on
the phone with the person and says well he’s right here but he’s not actually on
his phone and she taps him and realizes oh he’s he’s dead and then this takes
her on a journey to his house to meeting his brother to getting involved in his
his job which is a kind of shady you know I’m buying and selling I won’t give
it away but and then it winds up being a romance and a reflection on life and
technology and love and so it’s it’s very very funny
very wild but it’s also just deeply deeply profound and I just think it’s a
gift to the theater and it’s really really wonderful
