Dame Maggie Smith wins Best Actress Award at Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2019

Welcome to the stage the unstoppable force
that is Damian Lewis. The Natasha Richardson Award for Best
Actress, of course, goes to Dame Maggie Smith. I’m really very pleased to get this award
because it’s just so long ago that I got one when I started. So – and I got it because
they couldn’t think of anybody else to give it to. It was way, way back in ’62, ’63. I
was so thrilled to actually be back on the stage again. It was a terrific feeling. And I
do thank The Evening Standard for giving me this award. I have to thank, first of all I
have to thank Jonathan Kent, for finding the book. He read it and I was very lucky that he
asked me if I would be interested. And then Christopher Hampton, who is an amazing
writer, I’ve never known such a script. It was really – it was easier to learn than
Downton Park – Abbey – what is it? I do, I do forget a lot of things now. So do forgive me,
but I thank Jonathan and I do thank Christopher and I, I thank them both for
taking it to Nick Hytner and working at the Bridge which is a beautiful theatre. And I
also have to thank Laura Wilson, who spent a very long time trying to get me to learn all
those lines. So thank you very much indeed.

  • Where is the rest of the speech? You have a small sentence of her acceptance in your "Highlight" Video but that part doesn’t appear to be here…
could you please upload the whole thing? 😍
